UCHRONIA

UCHRONIA is an alternate history role-playing-game, featuring a world divided among the three Greater Powers of Britain, Russia and China. The point of departure from the real world is the birth of Shang-Kun who replaced Qianlong as Emperor of China. Shang-Kun was an intelligent, strong-willed individual who opened China up to the world rather than keeping it isolated as it was in the real world. This openness lead to increased trade with Europe, which changed the outcome of the Seven Years War, with France keeping Canada rather than losing it. This and a succesful Albany Congress in 1754 prevented the American Revolution from breaking out.

With France overstretched, and no American revolution as an example, when the French Revolution finally occurred, it caused the nation to dissolve into a collection of small states. Most of France's former colonies fell in the hands of the British Empire, which was gradually becoming the most powerful nation on the planet. Because of its openness, China did not stagnate in the 19th century, but instead industrialised and began sending merchants and colonists around the world. This drove Russia to industrialize in response to the growing power on its borders.

Trade and colonisation around the world drove all of the powers on, and the empires spread further and further. By the eve of the 20th century, North America was divided between the Three Empires, as was Africa. South America was divided between a number of relatively weak former Spanish and Portugese colonies. Mainland Europe was largely divided into a large number of small states with weak Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires, and the fourth power, the European Hegemony, which grew out of the Republic of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Sweden and various German principalities.

Over time, and after the Great War, the world settled into a mild three-way cold war, with the world divided between the equally balanced Greater Powers of the British, Russian and Chinese Empires, and the various smaller, less powerful nations.
