Topic: Trump doesn't understand the presidency

This from Jonathan Bernstein (who is one of the best observers of US politics, by the way, follow him if you're interested in more) strikes me as a key insight into why Donald Trump is doing so poorly as president:

Jonathan Bernstein wrote:

He simply refuses to accept that constant policy pushback from all sides is part of the job, not some personal affront or “deep state” campaign.

A smarter president would welcome dissent.

Would engage with critics inside his administration.

Would attempt to persuade policy professionals with whom he disagrees and appoint allies in key positions.

Trump doesn’t have the patience to do any of this. He treats the presidency like his reality-TV version of a business, where the boss orders things and others make it happen. That's not how the presidency works.
